Best Buy thinks it owns the word “geek”: NewEgg.com recently launched a new marketing campaign called “Geek On”. Best Buy feels that NewEgg’s logo, colour choice, and the use of the word “geek” infringes on their Geek Squad trademarks. So Best Buy’s lawyers sent them a cease & desist letter. Best Buy also doesn’t like NewEgg’s TV ads because they mock big box retailers and how they portray a poor consumer experience as the norm.
Did NewEgg push the envelope on this one, or is Best Buy just being a whiny baby?
